If I speak in the tongues of mortals and angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.
Love never ends.
And now faith, hope and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:1-8a 13
Congratulations on your upcoming Marriage!
We are happy that you are considering the Marriage Preparation Program at St. Rose de Lima Catholic Church. In order to get married at St. Rose, all couples must go through a program.
If you are planning to be wed in another Catholic church outside of our diocese, you are welcome to prepare with us and we will transfer all the paperwork to the appropriate parties.
-One (1) meeting with the priest to determine freedom to marry and complete the necessary paperwork.
Consult with the church secretary or priest on the church calendar (to hold the date).
-One meeting with the priest performing the ceremony to plan the wedding ceremony.
Priests outside the parish are welcome.
If you select a priest or deacon from outside the parish, he will be required to handle all the paperwork
and be present to conduct the wedding rehearsal. (They must use the correct paperwork required by the
Diocese of Biloxi).
-You must attend an engaged marriage encounter session conducted by the Diocese (or another Diocese if
the couple does not live in the geographical state/area). “For Better & Forever" focuses on open
communication and understanding. There are a series of questions to which each person answers
"agree," "disagree," or "unsure" The results of the survey are shared with the couple under the guidance
of a facilitator. The goal is to highlight potential areas of weakness and encourage the couple to develop
more effective ways of relating.
-Upon completion of the Diocese of Biloxi session, the couple will meet with the church’s engaged couple
counselors, led by a married couple who share their own stories and struggles of how marriage can be
done, as well as time for the engaged couple to do private sharing and planning, free of the normal
distractions of daily life.
-Couples for whom either party has had a prior marriage must follow guidance from the priest performing

Church Ceremony Considerations
The church’s wedding liaison will provide information on church formality:
The couple will discuss and make decisions with the priest on aspects of the wedding ceremony (readings, vows, etc.).
Flowers and Decorations: You may select the florist of your choice. Decorations must keep with the nature of the sacrament. Availability to decorate the church is dependent upon other marriages, Masses and funerals that may occur on that day.
Please use caution when using tape of any type to secure decorations on pews.
The use of candles must be enclosed and carpet must be protected.
Altar Servers: The church can provide them or you may select your own. Please let us know what your decision will be ASAP.
Rehearsal: Normally the evening before the wedding. Schedule the time of rehearsal with the parish office well in advance to ensure the church is available and the church wedding liaison is present.
The wedding party may stage themselves on the steps leading to the altar, or on the floor in front of the altar. Only the bride and groom will be on the altar during the ceremony. Witnesses will join the couple on the altar during the exchange of vows. The wedding party will sit in the first rows.
Photographers may not permanently stage themselves on the altar.
St. Rose has a commitment to begin all wedding ceremonies on time.
No rice or bird seed is to be thrown inside or outside the church.
Family is responsible for removing personal wedding items from the church as soon as possible following the ceremony. Rental items will be placed in a designated area for pick-up
The Church’s Liaison will coordinate with the families on their needs and concerns and ensure the church and altar is returned to its proper order.
Music: St. Rose de Lima asks that you respect the sacrament and select appropriate music selections. Please contact the parish secretary for information on church choir contacts.
